Specialist teaching staff are employed by the city schools through us to provide instrumental teaching (should they require it).
Some schools will make a charge for this teaching and we advise that the peripatetic teachers are available for 36 sessions a year, although due to in-service training, workshops, music recitals and possible illness it is hoped that a pupil would receive at least 30 sessions

How can you do this?
- Be supportive, early on music can sound strange!
- Listen to your child practise regularly and look for some aspect to praise. Do join in the practice.
- Discuss the homework with your child. Make sure (s)he understands what is expected.
- Once (s)he has passed the beginner stage, encourage her/him to play or sing in a band, orchestra or choir.
- Ensure that s(he) takes the instrument and all necessary books to each lesson.
- Ensure that your child can practise in a suitable environment, free from distraction and where s(he) can clearly see the music.
PUPIL PROGRESS
A pupil's progress is monitored using a 'Pupil Progress Book'. Pupils are expected to take this along to each lesson where the teacher will record all things they are expected to practise for the week. Parents can also communicate to the teacher through this book if they have any issues they wish to discuss.
At various points throughout the year, pupils will have the opportunity to enter a graded music examination.

What your teacher expects of you:
- Bring your instrument to every lesson.
- Bring your music to every lesson.
- Bring your progress book to every lesson.
- Read the homework box before you start your practice.
- Practise everything requested, not just the easy bits!
- Come to every lesson on time without waiting to be fetched or reminded.
- Check the lesson time each week if on a timetable rota.
- Make up any work your miss to attend your music lesson.
- Try your hardest.
